Just how Is it That Blu Beam Can Store So Much Info?

By now I'm pretty sure all of us have heard of blu ray technology and what its competent of. However the next few lines is for those of you that don't know what it is or what its capable of. Blueray technology was released by Nokia right when HD DVD MOVIE was at its peak. At the moment all movies would be on sale since HD DVD format and the most of the people had currently bought HD DVD players. But Sony came along and announced Blu Ray. They will claim to have much more info capacity and data transfer prices than any other format sold at the time or any time. Blu Ray can store five to ten times extra data than what the conventional Digital video disks is capable of. However the just problem with this new format is the fact Sony made it incompatible using other players including the current HD DVD players that had been popular at the time. Blu-Ray cds can only be played by itself players. This created a difficulty for HD DVD owners who had already bought HI-DEF DVD players and could not really watch movies that were exclusive to blu-ray.

A blu-ray disk looks like any other DVD, getting the same size and proportions. But then if that is the circumstance then how is it capable of store so much data? The response to this lies not in its physical dimensions but in its write/read technology. Blu-Ray uses a rare violet laser having a wavelength of 405 nanometers to study and write data for the disc. This laser can be where this technology received its name from. Unlike the blu ray, first era DVD's and CD's make use of a red laser having a much bigger wavelength to read and publish data.

It is because of this brief wavelength that so much info can be written on a single compact disk. The shorter wavelength signifies that data can be written extra precisely thus resulting in larger capacities. A single layer dvd can store up to twenty-five GB of data while a dual layer disc support up to 50 GB of information. Whereas on the other hand, first technology DVD's use a red lazer having a wavelength of 600 nanometers to write data. For this reason , it can only store 5. 7GB on a single layer blank disc.

It is due to this technology that blu ray will sooner or later be used as the channel of choice for storage uses. And as technology progresses the buying price of a single blu ray dvd movie will also fall. And as a result of personal blu ray writers this technology is not only open to the movie industry but may also be used by any person owning a blu ray burner. Click here: blu ray cover dimensions
